Creating a Presentation

To create a presentation, begin by clicking the ‘presentations’ icon in the Blackmagic Cloud dashboard.

To create a presentation:

If you are creating your first presentation, the ‘add presentation’ window will open automatically when you open the ‘presentations’ page. If you have created a presentation before, or have had a presentation shared with you, click the ‘add presentations’ button in the left hand panel to open the ‘add presentation’ window.

Sharing a Presentation

Presentations can be shared with individual Blackmagic Cloud members and groups within an organization. If you have created a presentation within a Blackmagic Cloud Organization, all the organization owners will automatically be added to the presentation. A presentation can contain a maximum of 10 participants.

You can also share a presentation with anyone who does not have a Blackmagic Cloud account by sending them an email link.

Joining a Presentation

If you are a Blackmagic Cloud member and receive an invitation to a presentation, you will get an email notification that contains a link. Simply click the link and follow the prompts to accept or decline the invite.

You will also see a notification in the ‘presentations’ page in Blackmagic Cloud. The presentation will be listed in the left hand sidebar under the ‘shared with me’ heading, along with an ‘invitation pending’ message. Click the presentation and click ‘accept’ or ‘decline’ to continue. Clicking ‘accept’ will open the presentation.

Uploading Clips to a Presentation

You can upload clips to a presentation from a DaVinci Resolve timeline, or directly via the ‘clips’ tab in the ‘presentations’ page. It’s worth noting that clips uploaded to Blackmagic Cloud presentations count towards your overall cloud storage, so it’s a good idea to make sure you have enough space before uploading or exporting.

Uploading from DaVinci Resolve

Blackmagic Cloud presentations and DaVinci Resolve work in conjunction with each other to provide an easy way to exchange notes between presentation members and colorists and editors working in DaVinci Resolve. Any markers, comments and annotations added to a presentation are automatically added to the DaVinci Resolve timeline and vice versa.

Presentation Settings

The ‘presentation settings’ allow presentation owners to rename a presentation, plus enable and disable additional options such as video conferencing.

To open the ‘presentation settings’, click the settings wheel icon at the top of the viewer.

General Tab

The general tab contains options to rename your presentation, toggle video conferencing on or off and enable or disable a presentation.

Video Conferencing

If you have video conferencing enabled for your presentation, you will see each user’s video stream appear in a live thumbnail in a strip above the presentation viewer. By default, the camera and microphone are switched off, however you can choose to enable one or both.

To enable your camera or microphone:

Click on the camera or microphone icon in the upper left of the viewer.

Starting a Presentation

All users in a presentation can view, add markers, comment and annotate any of the clips in a presentation independently of each other. Owners and members with the correct permissions can use the ‘sync player’ option to sync everyone’s viewer to their own. This means everyone can watch the same clip at the same time.

Selecting a Clip

To select a clip to view, click on the clip’s thumbnail in the ‘clips’ tab in the right hand sidebar. The clip will load in the viewer ready for you to view.

The viewer controls at the bottom of the ‘presentations’ page let you control all aspects of clip playback. The table below shows each button and its function.

Jog Bar: Shows the current playhead position and any markers that have been added. Click and drag the playhead to quickly scrub through a clip.

Viewer Options

The ‘view’ buttons at the top of the viewer let you switch between three different views.

Presentation view: This option is good for watching a presentation when video conferencing is enabled. Each user’s live thumbnail is displayed in a strip at the top of the screen.

Speaker view: This view can be useful for video conferencing before or after viewing a clip. Each user’s live video is displayed in the main viewer area, but the video viewer is hidden.

Adding Markers

Markers provide a fast and accurate way to provide feedback on clips in a presentation. Markers update in real time between all users and immediately appear in the DaVinci Resolve timeline used to make the clip.

You can add comments and annotations to markers, plus reply to comments and mark them as complete.

To add a marker:

In the right hand sidebar, click the ‘markers’ tab.

Using Chat

Using Chat

The ‘chat’ tab is a simple text based chat tool that lets you communicate with other users in a presentation. Chats are not linked to any particular clip, but to the presentation in general. Any comments added to the chat will be visible to all users in the presentation.

Deleting a Presentation

Deleting a presentation will delete any uploaded clips, markers and chats. It’s worth noting that deleting a presentation is permanent and cannot be undone.

To delete a presentation:

Click the settings wheel above the viewer and select ‘delete presentation’.
A confirmation box will be displayed. To continue and delete the presentation, click the ‘delete’ button.
